Breakfast: Ham, egg and cheese omelette
Lunch: Pulled pork pot pie
Dinner: Fried chicken with boiled brocolli and asparagus
Today started off with my forearms feeling sore. I guess my hands still need to get used to hitting the speedbag, soon enough i will be breezing through it without a problem and skipping in the same time just like Manny does it.
When I got to the gym my coach had that face of "hurry up" and told me we are going to work in the ring today, you know what that means! SPARRING! My third day back and I get to spar already? sweet!
Not so fast though, it was with 2 older gentlemen who are sparring for the first time. Nonetheless I was happy just to see where my skillset is at even though i havent spar in over a year.
So I start with the first guy who is the much older person, probably mid 40's early 50's. Taking it real easy and basically letting him throw in the beggining so he can loosen up and give him more confidence. By the middle of the round I can hear him wheezing while breathing and we were not even working that hard. but I think it was just more of the nervousness in his end that he was using a lot more energy than expected.
The second guy comes on the next round and I just try to go through the motions as usual. He had more intent on his punches so I had to just bring mines up a notch. I am usually a slow starter, it takes me at least a round to warm up and by the second round im on my groove. I saw that he liked throwing 1,2 combos back to back, so I took the ropes and just timed him as he let loose on the straight right and countered right back with a hook, I STILL GOT IT! I didnt throw hard of course just wanted to see if i can pull the trigger.
One of my flaws in sparring was putting my hands down while slipping punches. Need to stop doing that!!! I notice i do a lot of un-necessary movements that's a waste of energy. On the next session, I will concentrate on that more.

DAY 2 - OCTOBER 25, 2011 - MORE FEELING OUT
BREAKFAST: Chamomile tea and Ham and Cheese sandwich
LUNCH: Tuna sandwich with onions and peppers.
DINNER: 2 bananas and an apple, then a McRib (had to do it)
I didn't feel sore at all today but i know it will hit me by tomorrow eventually. I am glad I feel good! Just worried about my wrist.
Today, I started off with a 30 min run on the treadmill
3 rounds of jumprope
3 rounds shadow boxing
We didn't do mitts today but we did the old drills my coach has always done. 3-4 punch combinations with a partner going back and forth. Practially just practicing blocking, I love these drills! It might not look much but it still tires you out and sharpens your reflexes a bit. We probably did about a dozen rounds of these which got tiring near the end but the payoff is much better.
I started to cramp up on my right calf near the end, need to do a lot more stretching and make sure im hydrated besides that it was a good workout.

DAY 1 - OCT 24, 2011 - THE FEELING OUT SESSION
So today I decided to start a journal on my road to boxing. It has been almost a year to day that I stepped into a real boxing gym. Aside from going to Crunch fitness a few times to hit the bag and workout I thought if I want to really get in shape, this is what I have to do. JOIN A REAL GYM AND GET BUSY!
I also decided to jot down what I ate and how I felt each day and take a daily picture of my progress.
I have never done a journal before so I hope this can reveal something about myself and give anyone who comes across this blog some inspiration.
BREAKFAST: I had an apple and a banana
LUNCH: Tuna sandwich with onions and spicy mayo.
DINNER: Left over pop pie that I cooked the day before and some Japanese ramen type that my wife bought (good stuff by the way although it was not the healthiest thing).
So I get to the gym and warm up, do some stretches.
- 3 rounds jump rope. Usually i get really tired on my legs when I just get back on the grind but i felt real good today, i didnt feel tired and did the 3 rounds with ease.
- 3 rounds shadow boxing. Worked around a leather ball to loosen up more. Nearly busted my ass since there was a wetspot.
- 3 rounds mitts. This was where my stamina was going to be tested. My coach gave me about 6 combinations to work on and by the 2nd round i was going through all the combos without stopping but i was a little winded after the second round and even more on the third but I just kept cool and not over work myself but overall i think i did real well for my first day back. My concentration was there and very relaxed.
The only issue i had was my right wrist, its so weak right now and I couldn't really throw it with force since everytime he cought it with the mitts it felt like it was just going to break in half, so i was trying to just keep in form as much as possible but even that wasn't working out that great either. I was trying to do more of a overhand throw so i wont feel the pain in my wrist. I just hope this doesn't get messed up again. SLOW AND STEADY TIGER!
- 3 rounds on the heavy bag, uppercut bag and wall bag (1 round each). Same issue here with my wrist, i couldnt throw it with force since i was scared to mess it up again. i just worked on form and doing combinations on all 3 bags.
- 2 rounds double end bag. Practiced mainly slipping and my jab for today.
- 2 rounds speed bag. Arms felt weak since its my first day, it was a little tough keeping it up for the whole round but soon enough ill be schooling this sucker.
- Situps and pushups. Did a good amount today it wasn't up to par to what i use to do when i was in top shape but i know i will get it back in a few weeks. I can't wait to see my abs again!
When I got home, I iced my right knee and right wrist. I couldn't control my right hand completely, i was scared that it was really damaged badly. When I was typing I couldn't control my pinky and closing and opening my hands was tough, it just felt really tight.
Luckily this morning was a lot better and I hope i just need to get it more work to strenghten it.
